Parent Advocates for Adult Children with Intellectual and/or Developmental Disabilities in North Carolina
About Us
PACID includes over 300 families with adult or nearly adult children who have intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (I/DD). Most members are from Orange County, North Carolina.
Membership in PACID is free and open to all interested parties. In addition to families it also includes several dozen government and nonprofit entities, such as those representing group homes or others affiliated with affordable housing, day services, and advocacy for individuals with disabilities.
PACID has three Goals
Connecting parents and creating a community that can collectively promote systemic change
Keep members up to date on I/DD policies and programs in North Carolina
Advocacy for expanding I/DD services and housing options
Current Activities of PACID include:
Hosting monthly educational meetings between parents and policy or program leaders
Sending weekly emails with current information on housing, social gatherings, seminars, and other topical issues
Holding periodic meetings with community and state leaders
